Our Mini MOVIE!!!

The following is a "mini movie" of our Project-Based Learning Class. It is a video recap, giving the general idea of what kinds of things we did during winter quarter. In addition to learning about applications like PowerPoint, Excel and Word, the students collaborated on a few activities using "Cloud Computing." They learned a little about the potential of the Internet, which they used to practice typing, store documents and visit the class blog, located at:

Today we learned that Zina did well enough on her COMPASS test to get into the Accounting Program and that she also qualified for financial aid! (That's a super combination!) Zina did accounting-related work in her home country, so we know she'll do well in that program! Go get 'em Zina! We know you're going to do great!

RTC Program VIsits

Today we went to visit some of RTC's 70-plus programs. We went to automotive, auto body, computer networks, band instrument repair, office assistant, accounting and welding! What a day! Thank you David Grant!

BRAND NEW TYPING WEB DATA SHEET!!!

Hello Everybody! 

The projector in our classroom did not work again today, but we still were able to work on our charts using individual PowerPoint Presentations! Using a "split-screen" was new for many of you, but you did very well! 

"Cloud Computing" still has a few problems! (Remember Murphy's Law!) 

I have made a new spreadsheet and everyone has their own sheet! I think that this will eliminate many of the problems we had today trying Cloud Computing!

CHARTING OUR TYPING WEB PROGRESS

HELLO EVERYBODY!

We had some trouble today with the projector, but it is supposed to work tomorrow! I have a "PowerPoint" that I made in the "CLOUD," showing how to make a chart from your typing web data. It goes step by step.

03072013 PBL Visit to Ophthalmic Assistant Program

Today most of the class went to visit the Ophthalmic Assistant Program. The students in that program tested our eyes and answered our questions about eye health, care and the Ophthalmic Assistant Program. I enjoyed myself and learned a lot about eye tests and my own vision!

Today three of the PBL students visited the Automotive Program where Jack Devine showed us around and answered all of our questions. We had a great visit and Jack told us that we were welcome to come back (even to sit in on a class to see if we thought we could do well in the class) anytime!

02222013 PBL CNA Program Visit

Today we visited the CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) Program. We had a great time learning from Yasmin and her students about the CNA program. Meanwhile, they measured our vital signs, including pulse, respiration and blood pressure. it was a very interesting visit. Thank you Yasmin for a very rewarding visit!

02212013 PBL Massage Therapy Visit

After David Grant's visit to our class, we went to visit the Massage Therapy Clinic. The program offers low-cost massages and they also explained a lot about the program to our class. Thank you Zefire and your students! Our visit was great! Here are some images:

Today David Grant came to visit the class and tell them about career and life possibilities at RTC. Next week he's going to take us on a tour of the campus so that we can really get to know the college.

Today we visited the Phlebotomy Technician Program in B Building from 9:30 to 11:00. We met the content teacher and watched the new phlebotomists draw blood in the lab. Many of us had our blood tested as well! Here are some stills from our visit...

02122013 Open House!!

Today Simone hosted an Open House in the phlebotomy lab. Guests included classes from Basic Studies and Allied Health programs as well as the friends and family of the current phlebotomy students. Here are some stills from that day! It was great to meet everyone and to see the phlebotomists really step up their game! You guys are looking great!

Wordle Mystery Solved! Oksana's Name Corrected!

Hello All,

I found out why LE's name did not appear in our most recent Wordle!  Apparently Wordle will not display "French" words in its default settings. When I changed that, it displayed Le's name. I have made her name slightly larger than the rest to make up for the oversight!  Sorry Le!

I have also corrected the spelling of OKSANA's name on the Typing Web Summary (Week 1) Page.

Flu Season Awareness -- Have you had your shot yet?

Today the students went around with flyers promoting flu-season awareness and encouraging students and faculty to get their flu shots at tomorrow's flu shot clinic on campus at RTC. They had to brave the cold to complete the task, and everyone worked together to get word out! 

Thank you everybody! Let's hope for a good turnout tomorrow!

Swifter, Higher, Stronger... Olympian Typists!

Today we had our first Awards Ceremony to celebrate our fastest and hardest working typists. There were three of each for each of the term so far, so we had 18 winners (not all different, but all very happy and talented. Here are the pictures. The top three in each category were given awards, with the number one spot getting a choice of chocolate bars and a GOLD MEDAL!

Even if you aren't a very fast typist, you can get a medal if you are diligent (= hard working). Just type the longest of everyone in the class you can can bring home some gold too!

Xue's Wordle Project

The other day Xue brought in a few Wordles that she made with her kids at home. She used the Wordle link from our blog and then she used her KCLS library card to print her Wordles in color for FREE!
I asked her to pose for this picture to show us her project. You can do the same and make your very own Wordle, to celebrate some occasion.... All you need to do is follow our link and type in your words!

Today, after enjoying a delicious buffet of foods from around the world, I enjoyed watching four presentations about four countries, Mexico, Ethiopia, Ukraine and Guatemala) three of which  I have never visited before (Mexico, Ethiopia and Guatemala). Watch these and learn something new about these countries!

Congratulations to Xue, Farida and Frida, our gold, silver and bronze medalists in last week's typing practice. Our gold and silver medalists practiced for more than an hour last week! That's great!

Right now, typing speed is not as important as typing time. Later in the term, we might have a contest for typing time, so keep practicing!
